Travel to Seoul, Korea: Where To Stay

Deciding where to stay in Seoul when you travel to Korea for the first time is a tricky choice. (But not as tricky as trying to learn Korean.) As a certified hotel hunny™ my options were seemingly endless. There are so many different neighborhoods in and out of Seoul.

Let’s talk about the place I got to call home for a week last summer when I travel to Seoul, Korea – Novotel Ambassador Hotel in Dongdaemun. There are two parts to this accommodation, the hotel rooms and the residence suites. I stayed in the residences.

The Hotel Residence

It was pretty much like a studio apartment. In the entryway, there was a bench to prop up luggage as well as a kitchenette area. The kitchen had cookware, cutlery, a stove, a sink, a microwave, an electric kettle, and mini fridge stocked with hotel water bottles. If you like AirBnbs because they give you the flexibility to cook your own food, you could definitely get by making your own meals here too. (But why would you when there are restaurants and a cafe in the hotel building?)

After putting on your indoor slippers, supplied by the hotel, there’s a TV, couch, and two table surfaces for working. Additionally, there was a king-sized bed with a virtual concierge and two closets with ample space to unpack your bags. Don’t forget to look out the window which has a nice view of the Seoul Tower!

The massive bathroom (seen in the TikTok video above) had amazing counter space. I love a good ole walk-in shower with a cheeky glass door and this suite had one. Spending a day outside in the hot, muggy, summer sun in Korea, it was always a treat to take a luxurious shower with ample space to spread my arms and twirl around like I’m Drew Barrymore in the rain.

The toilet, to be brief, had a bidet. My bum never knew a cold moment while at Novotel.

Traveling to Seoul, Korea

For my first moments in Seoul, I wanted to make sure I was comfortable as possible. This includes my first moments touching down in the country. After picking up my suitcase, I met my private chauffeur who ushered me to the required testing site. (At the time, Korea was still requiring travelers to take COVID test upon arrival.) It was nice to essentially have my hand held through the process.

Once I got tested, my driver took my bags to the car and drove me all the way to the hotel. I’m glad Novotel was able to coordinate this ride for me. I wouldn’t have known how to navigate the airport or public transit system right off the bat. It takes a couple of days to get used to things, and even then I still opted for Kakao Taxi when I felt like it.

Make sure to come back for more posts about my travels to Seoul, Korea! I’ll be dropping things to do, and places to see and eat!
